Hab Maint: When we first entered the Hab yesterday the computer and internet situation was as follows and the following steps were taken to troubleshoot the problem.
· The Hab Activity Logger (HAL) computer was located on the second floor counter. However, since none of us have extensive Linux experience, we were struggling to make it work.
· Once that was done, we were trying to connect to the “marsnet” network as per the information written on the Mission Support white board. No such network was present, the only Wi-Fi network available being an unprotected network called “wireless” stemming from the Linksys router located under the computer workstation (where the printer is located).
· The HAL computer had the wireless disabled (which we only realized this morning) so we connected it to the router using a Cat5 cable.
· We were able to connect to this network on the HAL computer as well as our personal devices. however, using the IP address on the whiteboard or the one which is indicated on the HAL dashboard, we could not access the HAL software on any other computer than the HAL computer itself.
· We all used the HAL computer to submit our reports but noticed that our internet bandwidth availability was dropping extremely fast and was still doing so when the only device connected to the network was the HAL computer.
· This morning we shut down the HAL computer and observed the internet bandwidth meter. In doing so we realized that the HAL computer was the one responsible for draining our Internet bandwidth.
· Needing to prepare for our evening reports we had to reopen the HAL computer. In the process of doing so we figured out that the wireless was turned off and turned it back on. Doing so activated the “HabActivityLogger” wireless network. With it on we were now able to access the HAL webpages on our personal devices.
· The current problem remains that using the HAL computer and having it connected to the network is causing our bandwidth to drain extremely fast. For example from 5pm to 10pm last night we dropped to 30% remaining only emailing reports and using the HAL software.
· The current alternative is to use the network stemming directly from the Linksys router for regular internet usage and only use the HAL computer when submitting reports. However for EVA planning reports, where a significant amount of time needs to be spent on the computer, this ‘solution’ might not be acceptable.
· Please advise on how to proceed keeping in mind none of us are proficient in using this distribution of the Linux operating system.

Tomorrow Plan: Tomorrow, Crew 131 will begin their normal daily routine for the next two-weeks. This begins with the crew rising at 0630am for the low intensity workout for the exercise study, which will begin at 0700 sharp. Following our exercise session, the crew will have breakfast and a brief break before beginning the next activity, which will be usability testing of the Final Frontier Design space suit gloves. Once the glove testing is complete, the crew will begin lunch preparation to insure that the EVA team will be able to eat before they need to go suit up for their EVA at 1230. EVA team 1 will be leaving the Hab for their first EVA tomorrow at 1300. This will be a walking EVA that will test a component from a space suit that students in the Embry-Riddle Human Factors Department are in the process of designing. This component is an armband that will be used as a GPS and watch. Following the EVA, the System Usability Scale will be administered to EVA team 1 to evaluate the arm band GPS in comparison to the normal hand held GPS. EVA team 1 will return from their first EVA by 1630. During the time that EVA team 1 is out, team 2 will be working on their reports, cleaning, doing dishes, and preparing dinner so that it is ready by 1700 for those returning from their EVA as they will be famished from all of the hiking in their EVA suits. Once Crew 131 has finished dinner, they will finish up their reports and submit them during COMS. After COMS, the crew will complete the various cohesion, mood, and stress questionnaires for the study looking at determining the ideal measures for monitoring crew function and cohesion. Once these questionnaires are complete, the crew will unwind from the long and very busy day by playing group games and listening to music.
Inventory:
Support Req: Engineer seeking instruction on "Potable Water Meter Reading" - Unsure what exactly this is referring to and where to locate measurement, or if this is simply referring to manual calculation of total potable water.
Miscelleneous: We are having trouble keeping the front door on the GreenHab closed. It was found wide open this morning. The back door lock was stuck but was able to be forced open. It was likely stuck due to the extremely cold temperatures.
