Commander Report

As I sit down to write this I realize the CO isn’t magically immune to 3rd quarter syndrome --

tonight’s report is a struggle. But it was a successful day on Mars. Gartrelle with assistance

from Howell started up the hydroponics system. Most of the rest of us showed up to take photos and

help out as we could in the crowded space. Tomorrow the lettuce sprouts will get transplanted to

the hydroponics bed. Otherwise today was calm and we got caught up on little chores and did more

project work. Tomorrow Jessup is doing another strata study EVA with Gartrelle, Diaz-Rubin and

Howell after the lettuce gets planted. And I’ll get more helmet temperature data too.

Speaking of hydroponics, not only has the crew conserved water sufficiently to last us until the

supply system is back online tomorrow but we had enough water (16 gallons) to start up the

hydroponics system today. What a crew!
