Purpose:

Measure vertical profiles of soil moisture, two sites "Shrub" and

"Barren". Continuation of geophysical soil moisture project started on

EVA1.

Narrative:

In the beginning of the EVA Crew Engineer Victor Luo did the

engineering checks after which we filled up the outside water tank. XO

Heidi Beemer did the HABcomm.

We proceeded with ATVs to the “Shrub” site 2,6 km from the Hab by

road. This time we did establish comms with the Hab from the “Shrub”

site. On site, we did two vertical profiles (=pits) of soil moisture

measurements. The depths of these profiles were around 30 cm.

From the “Shrub” site we returned back towards the Hab. We passed the

Hab and did a fast reconnaissance pass to Gregory Leonard’s field site

about 300 meters South of the Hab for tomorrows scheduled EVA.

The next stop was on the “Barren” site, where we did two vertical

profiles of soil moisture measurements. After these measurements we

drove to the Hab.

After returning to outside of the Hab, we still had 30 minutes of EVA

time left. Crew Engineer Victor Luo used this time to do 3D scans of

the surroundings.

Equipment worked fine and radio comms were mostly working. In the end

of the EVA Crew Scientist Juho Vehviläinen had some issues with sweat

getting into his eyes. We will try to mitigate this issue on the

subsequent EVAs.
