GREEN HAB REPORT BY PAMELA NICOLETATOS

DAY ONE: (09.02.15)

Began force Growth Study of Hops Rhizomes, Sorghum.

HOPS RHIZOMES:

Established parameters within the Engineering/Science lab to setup optimized growth and development.

Time taken approximately 3 ½ hours.

Temperature range maintained at 85-90 degrees Fahrenheit.

9 “test” subjects were initiated for the Hops rhizomes.

5 medium sized containers containing approximately 3 cups of Regolith.

1 large sized container containing approximately 9 cups of Regolith.

4 “control” subjects were initiated for the Hops rhizomes.

2 large sized containers containing approximately 9 cups of Earth soil.

2 medium sized containers containing approximately 3 cups of Earth soil.

Initiated a heat shield to reduce fluctuations in temperature.

SORGHUM SEEDS (DWARF MAYO):

Established parameters within the Engineering/Science lab to setup optimized growth and development.

Time taken approximately 3 ½ hours. Was incorporated at the same time as planting Hops Rhizome.

Temperature range maintained at 70-75 degrees Fahrenheit

30 “Test” Subjects were initiated of Sorghum seeds

¼ cup regolith

2 seeds per pot

½” below surface.

12 “Control” Subjects were initiated with Sorghum seeds.

¼ cup Earth soil.

2 seeds per pot.

½” below surface.

All subjects received 100% hydration and a hydrometer will be implemented on Day Three (11.02.15) to monitor and establish water constant.

CYANOBACTERIA TO FERTILIZE MARTIAN SOIL (crew 142 expansion):

“watered” the plants with the control solution and the cyanobacteria in the morning but due to power loss we didn’t water them in the evening as needed

GREEN HAB COVERING

Crew members Sullivan and Miscodan covered the hole in the green hab with some plastic sheet
