Purpose:
Hand signal identification and testing with rover observations. Communications simulated between Capcom and EVA groups with and without verbal communication.
Our second group went on an EVA to a butte about 700m+ away (0518552E
4251463N). We have named it "Picard Butte" for the sake of naming, though we know all these features have official names.
Narrative:
EVA Procedure
1. Rover following Kavya and Jorge +
2. Kavya and Jorge practice emergency hand signals between each other +
3. Kavya and Jorge practice emergency signals as though they can hear us but cannot talk. Cap Comm understood all their hand signals as seen on the video feed and confirmed them by radio. +
4. Using rover to respond "yes" or "no" to questions from EVA to Cap Comm as though Cap Comm had no audio but could hear EVA. -
5. Both EVA groups (Jorge and Kavya; Peter and Josh) practice hand signals with each other. +
* While EVA hand signal group waited for EVA Picard Butte group to return to look at rover, Cap Comm asked hand signal group to confirm oxy was adequate; using hand signals, they did.
Problems Occurred
1. No video signal from rover
2. Rover stopped moving and did not respond to controls. Humberto tried to operate closer to Hab door. EVA participants picked up rover to bring it closer to the Hab. Kavya looked at connections, and Josh asked us to stand down on any rover repair, which we did. Problem was a drained battery.
