MDRS Daily Summary Report for Sol 5, 11/12/15
Why does it hurt so bad to pee in space?
After breakfast, we enjoyed a series of lectures on genitourinary issues in space, visual impairment/intracranial pressure, and general implications to human physiology in space travel. We also had video lectures on sleep disorders in space as well as motion sickness in-flight and post-mission. Part of our team went on an EVA similar to different crew members yesterday. The simulated medical scenario today involved recognition and management of ureteral colic (kidney stone) that developed while on the EVA. Of note, yesterday evening we also utilized the free space in the Green Hab as a workout facility. We had a great time working out together. Afterward, we enjoyed the clear skies for some star gazing before going to sleep. We will continue our daily routine tomorrow with didactics, book club, and EVA.
Anomalies in work:
We had problems with one of the ATVs today. During the EVA, the ATV was temporarily abandoned and the crew had to return to retrieve it and bring it back to the Hab.
Our water will reportedly be refilled later this evening.
We had difficulty with internet access yesterday evening, despite taking measures over the course of the mission to avoid accidental wifi access with our cell phones.
Weather:
The weather was clear and perfect for an EVA today.
Crew Physical Status:
No issues to date.
EVA: (where did you go?)
Approximately 2 miles north of the Hab
Reports to be filed: (List them)
Engineering, XO, Journalist, Commander, EVA
Support Requested:
Water reportedly will be delivered tonight. If it is not, we will have to break sim to obtain water from town.
We are thankful to DG for bringing mattresses and removing the trash trailer today. He intends on installing the new oven soon.
Respectfully Submitted,
Kyle Brown
Executive Officer, MDRS Crew 156
