Purpose:

The objectives of this EVA were to:

1. Test the quadcopter with replacement restraining bolt system

2. Drive to locations and set up markers to identify low, medium, and high risk terrain for human exploration.

3. Take photos of the locations. Write down specific GPS coordinate if they deviated from those on HAL.

Narrative:

EVA #6 got off to a good start as we used the developed EVA checklist to guide us through the spacesuit donning process. The checklist has been refined and we are growing accustomed to the procedures. We were ready for adventure and in the airlock five minutes after 10am. The quadcopter was quickly put to the test with the replacement restraining bolt system. We were all very happy to see the quadcopter have a nominal flight and a soft landing. The engineering tasks of checking water level, diesel, and propane were completed and the findings were communicated to Habcom.

Next, we set out to drive to the seven predetermined locations. Unfortunately ATV 2 started behaving in an unusual manner and would not start. After receiving detailed instructions from Habcom, we were able to start the ATV on the fuel cock RES position. The team returned to the Hab and unfortunately a crew member had to stay behind.

The remaining crew members then set out to find the points of interest. Out of these locations, four were low risk, one was medium risk, and two were high risk. The EVA team successfully found the locations and setup the areas. Four markers were used at the locations to make a 10' x 10' area. The markers are color coordinated to indicate green is low risk, blue is medium risk, and pink is high risk. Tomorrow, we will be returning to the same locations and taking images with the quadcopter. We found some of the locations to be out of sight from the road. We were sure to mark the locations with extra ribbon so that they would be visible from the road. This will help save time during tomorrow's EVA.
