Purpose:

Retesting UAV and rover capabilities for scouting around a fluvial channel East from the Habitat.

Narrative:

EVA: Michal and Matteo

HabCOM: Julielynn

Michal and Matteo decided to retest two UAVs brought by Matteo, equipped with a camera to see if they can capture any useful aerial images that can be used for scouting. The UAVs were tested before but each time there was a problem with either with image capturing or with remote control. They. found a fluvial channel east of the Habitat. Michal did basic scouting routings (pictures, panorama, GPS coordinates), while Matteo was preparing the UAVs. Both ascent attempts were successful and the UAVs flew above our heads.

After that, Matteo tested a small (palm size) rover called antbot which he built himself, to see if the antbot can cross the channel and capture some images. The antbot moved through the channel however it got stuck after 2 meters.

Michal had to collect scouting equipment from the ground and his radio fell off ripping off the ear piece... As the earpiece couldn't be attached back, Michal put the radio back to the backpack. Michal and Matteo found a way to communicate without using a radio. If you put the helmets together and put hands on each other helmets the sound wave can easily pass through it and verbal communication is possible. Once they packed the equipment they returned to the Hab.

The UAV was left out side for charging with a solar pannel

The pictures from both UAVs were checked after return and proved scouting capability of both UAVs.
