Greetings Mission Support,

Commander Report Crew 165:

Pamela Nicoletatos

Sol 11

Earth date: 17/03/16

Sol 11 started with a master chef preparation from our GreenHab officer and a meal, which involved a traditional Japanese style table setting and cuisine. Conversations centered on cultural expectations of meals and styles, such a sweet meals for breakfast and savory meals reserved for lunch and dinner times. The Xo and I were questioned as to whether or not presentation of the meal in a buffet style would have encouraged us to eat more of the Japanese cuisine in front of us. I was of both minds as I think I would have been reluctant to have served myself some of the portions and so was mildly surprised by the refreshing flavors of some of the foods.

Second last EVA for our rotation had the Japanese portion of our crew out again to test a coordinate site location exercise. They were successful and returned to a macaroni and cheese lunch (our Crew GreenHab officer’s request) and Quesadillas with homemade salsa. Still wowing the crew! Dinner tonight is to be a surprise and have to say I am both apprehensive and excited by the prospects! You just never know what you’re going to get.

Naps are in progress; reports to follow and a night of crew bonding over plaques organized by the XO and myself to commemorate our time together here at the MDRS and of course our routinely gathering for game night of Star Wars monopoly! Awesome crew, awesome times.

The Crew’s time here is wrapping up and I have to say that it has been a stellar time. No hiccups, no nonsense and no drama! A peaceful life on Mars has been the aim of Crew 165 and an opportunity to delve into the science, which makes the facility such an extraordinary opportunity to be a part of.

Crew Commander signing off.

Pamela
