Journalist Report 30/03/2016

Sol 11.

Great news! The little radishes started to grow. Some of them let us see little leaves. It appears that the plants prefer the coffee grounds instead of the mixture with Martian soil. We are happy about that, but it certainly will be one of the next crew who could eat them.

No EVA today for me, it was planned but I woke up with a backache and prefer to rest. Our HSO is always enchanted to have something to do...

The others walked a lot today, and apparently it was very useful. (-> see the commander report about that)

Bread and soup for lunch, like usual. We are starting to be tired of the Martian dehydrated food. We are homesick from our Belgian food, and especially chocolate! (No, it’s not a subliminal message…)

We made a list of what’s the first meal we want to eat first when we will be back. Some of us started a peanut butter addiction and tried to put it in everything they cooked.

Afternoon passed calmly, games for some, TV series for others, and reading for the lasts. I finished The Martian! So I started another book I brought with me, in French this time, so easier to read. I’ve already finished it too. Murakami is a great writer, and his last book didn’t disappoint me.

Today, the NorCal rover went out with our crew engineer. At first, the goal was to have it looking after Gregory, but we don’t really know who was looking after who… The rover is not simple to control, and it doesn’t like terrain that is too rugged.

The weather is awful today, clouds everywhere! I hope we could obtain some results from the two spectrometers we bring with us. It would be most unfortunate to not, but the weather is not highly cooperative?

“It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.”

“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”
