Commander Report Crew 167A:

April Andreas

Sol 1

Earth date: 04/04/16

Today we said goodbye to Crew 166 and officially entered sim at 09:24. We conducted our two orientation EVAs. The orientation EVAs focus on helping crew members get their bearings, learn major landmarks along the trail, and generally get used to everything that is required to be “in sim.” I led EVA 1 and Amanda led EVA 2.

During EVA 1, the crew remaining in the hab did a bit of housekeeping, though truly Crew 166 left everything in great shape. Jesse and Dakota put together agar plates in preparation for work that we will do in microbiology tomorrow. The crew came together for lunch and enjoyed tortilla soup, courtesy of Clark.

During EVA 2, the crew that had gone out in the morning experimented with the bread machine and discovered a general enthusiasm for Dion and the Belmonts. We’ve made a plan for tomorrow, which will include a microbiology experiment and, pending approval, our Geology training EVAs.
