Purpose:

Investigate possible sampling points at the way point 0518340 4251044,

while conducting regular radio reports to asses the quality of the

communications along the route. The EVA was also to provide more

practice on the ATVs and further assessing the reliability of the the

ATVs which have so far not given any trouble.

Narrative:

The river crossing at the second way point was easily discernible, but

the co-ordinates read from the map were about 400m east of the current

road, suggesting that the road may not be exactly as marked on the

map. Proceeded to way point three, found nothing interesting and

returned to the river crossing. Then established communications by

moving to a elevated position. Then went on foot foot to locate the

exact position of way point two. Communications was possible at that

location. Permafrost recordings were taken at that location. At this

location, one EVA member had a mishap which resulted in a broken

headset cable. As the sampling was copleted, it started to rain so the

EVA began making its way back to the hab. Communications were found to

be highly terrain dependent and varied markedly over short distances.
